Regattas are a fabulous way to test your racing skills as well as the ability of your boat and crew. They give you more options in terms of your competitors, courses and depending on the type of boat you own you might enjoy class level racing, or PHRF racing. Either way, they’re sure to be filled with fun and excitement.

Not only are regattas great fun on the water, they also include many shore-side activities after racing. With the anticipation building towards the final announcements of results, you won’t want to miss a thing! National Yacht Club members participate in many regattas throughout the year and hosts many others.

Even if you don’t race on a boat, volunteering at a regatta is a great way to experience the excitement this great sport has to offer. If you are interested in volunteering at a regatta this season, please fill out our online form here.

Celebrate the Summer Solstice and enjoy some friendly competition and socializing at NYC’s 5th Annual Summer Social! There is something for everyone at this event - racers, cruisers, powerboat and kayaks are all invited to come on out for a great day on and off the water. Kids welcome as well!

Summer Solstice Celebration
The longest day of the year – when the sun is over the yardarm – is celebrated to bring good fortune, good food and good sailing weather. It is a celebration of life, light and love. It is returning to nature and finding the spirit of adventure. In that spirit, this year's Summer Social will be Hippie themed, so we encourage everyone to get their flower power on!

Big Sun. Big Sails. Huge Fun. Bigger Tales.
Spirit of Adventure Pursuit Race – Sail boats of all sizes are invited to participate in this exciting and fun “catch-up” style race, where the slower boats get a head start on the competition.

On The Lake Scavenger Hunt – Power boaters or sailors who prefer to take a leisurely cruise will be sure to have an adventure deciphering poems that will take you to various locations in the inner harbour and around the Toronto Islands.

In-the-Basin Kayak Race – Loan, borrow or bring your own kayak and participate in an afternoon race around NYC's basin.

On Shore Activities – After the morning’s on-water activities members are invited to gather on the Club's west lawn and chartroom for fun and games! Even if you aren't participating in the on-water activities you are welcome to join in the shore-side fun. Draw prizes, vendor demos, lawn games and a delicious BBQ. Top it off with a dipped cone from the Ice Cream Truck and your day will be complete!

*** High Water Notice ***

National’s annual dinghy and skiff regatta will return in 2019! NYC invites dinghy and skiff sailors of all ages to participate in some friendly competition. NYC invites C420, I-14, 2.4 mR and any other single and double-handed classes with 5 boats or more, to register for this year’s event.

If you would like more information about our regatta or would like to volunteers to help with a range of jobs, please contact Regatta Chair David Foscarini at david@mecon.com.

History of The National Event
The National Event was first held in the summer of 2010 with a mandate to provide quality racing for skiff competitors. Since it’s inception, the event has continue to grow, with 50 boats attending last year’s regatta from clubs within the GTA as well as a number of sailing schools outside of the Toronto area. It is a good midsummer event for skiff competitors, who in the past have used this event as a benchmark in fine-tuning their racing skills for events held later in the summer. In the past, The National Event has welcomed youth and adult sailors from 29er, 49er, Club 420, 1-14, Contender and the 2.4mR classes.

This is a multi-generational event, one of the few to be held on Lake Ontario. It offers the opportunity for youth sailors to interact with competitive athletes a generation or two older than themselves, reconfirming that quality competitive dinghy and skiff sailing is available for all ages.
